Stars of British comedy series Blackadder
are in discussions to bring the show back
after 26 years.
Sir Tony Robinson, who played Baldrick,
has spoken with the rest of the cast about
a new series, reports British newspaper The
The most high profile stars include Rowan
Atkinson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.
Sir Tony told The Sun the cast were in
favour of reviving the show but said the
producers might not be able to afford
Laurie, now a megastar in the United
“ I do think a new series of Blackadder is
on the cards. I have spoken to virtually all
the cast about this now,” Robinson said.
“The only problem is Hugh’s fee. He’s a
huge star now or so he’d like to think.”
Laurie is believed to have been paid up to
$550,000 per episode for House, which ran
from 2004 to 2012.
Blackadder starred Atkinson in the title
role, before he went on to star in Mr Bean.
Its historical settings spanned Medieval
England to World War One. It finished in
1989, though a special episode,Blackadder
Back And Forth, was made for London’s
Millennium Dome in 1999.
Sir Tony, who went on to host Channel
4’s Time Team for 20 years, told The Sun:
“ Expectations for a new series will be high
because people not only remember the
original, they remember who they were
when it was on. It ’s a big danger.”
