Blue skies and a warm Saturday
greeted a full field of 140 last
weekend for the Greymouth Golf
Club’s biggest tournament of the
year the Westland Classic.
The trophy for best gross score
was won by Greymouth club
captain Peter Bourke, who put
together two steady rounds of 72,
three shots from Jarrod Satherley,
on 146. Bourke picked up the
Westland Classic Trophy plus $500
for the win.
Lyn Bruning showed her
2016 form was no fluke, with a
repeat win to capture the Penny
Robertson Jug and $500 for a net
score of 146.
Best net across the men’s
divisions was won by long shot
local winner Gavin Grant, who
had two good net rounds of 68 and
back from Kevin Peters, also 130
A feature of the tournament was
a hole-in-one scored by David
Browne, of Waitikiri, who won
$300 for his efforts.
The classic attracted players
from afar, with 10 players from
Australia, and similar numbers
from Auckland joining 30 local
players and about 90 others from
the Canterbury, Nelson and

The Kaiata golf links hosted the Westland Classic last Saturday, with about 30 West Coast
players in a full field of 140 players from as far afield as Auckland and Canterbury. Saturday
dawned fine and clear and the Kaiata course sparkled in extraordinarily bright sun. Reporter
