Jason Ryan, former West

current Crusader Knights scrum
coach, said the trial would bring
the best young talent together
within the Crusaders franchise
area, along with Crusaders wider
training group players and NZ
"I know Troy has been training
the house down, including
scoring a very impressive 17.5
on the yoyo fitness test, which is
the standard for ITM Cup front
rowers," Ryan said.
"Opportunities like this don t
come around very often and I m
sure the West Coast will see the
benefits it will bring.
" is is definitely reward for
the great season he had for the

the best," Ryan said.
West Coast Rugby Football
Union chairman Colin Smith
said Tauwhare s selection was
indicative of the career paths
beyond the West Coast union
available to Coast rugby
"As our rugby history shows,
West Coasters can foot it with
the best when they have the
determination to do so, such as
Troy has shown," Smith said.

e event last year attracted
about 50 cars but Greymouth Car
Club member Nigel Barclay said
that early interest for the March

would be easily topped.
e rally starts outside the

hard to keep at bay.

New Zealand cashed in on the second
morning of the opening test against
India, with captain Brendon McCullum
completing his second double century
off the final ball of the session.
McCullum went to 202 when he
swept spinner Ravi Jadeja to the square
leg boundary. He has batted 426
minutes, and got his runs off 280 balls,
with 28 fours and three sixes.
At lunch, New Zealand were strongly
positioned at 473 for seven, with Ish

Mohammed Shami got his first
wicket of the innings when he bowled
Tim Southee for a bright 28.

India s bowlers were again

McCullum and Kane Williamson

India had exploited the green drop-in
pitch and overcast conditions to reduce
the hosts to 30 for three.
