which is 14 seconds under the qualifying

"It was a good swim from Sophie,"
her coach Roly Crichton said. "We are
just starting our build-up campaign
for Glasgow and then the Pan Paci c
Championships so today was an
encouraging swim and nice to get the
qualifying out of the way."
Boyle and fellow London Olympians
Glenn Snyders and Matt Stanley all
impressed with con dent performances
in their respective heats to set themselves
up for a tilt at qualifying times for the
Commonwealth Games in tonight's nal

Ivan Cleary has answered an
SOS to help the Kiwis for next
month's Anzac test against
Australia in Sydney.
Cleary will act as Stephen
Kearney's assistant, the same
role he performed at last year's
World Cup. He had initially
ruled himself out of continuing
because of his commitments
as Panthers coach but Kearney
needed a quick replacement after
Andrew McFadden stepped
down after being appointed
interim Warriors coach.
It leaves Kearney still looking
for a long-term option ---
McFadden had been appointed
assistant for two years --- but
there is plenty of time before the
Four Nations at the end of the
"While it's disappointing to
lose Andrew, we had included
a clause in his contract that
enabled him to take advantage of
any head-coaching opportunities
that might arise," NZRL high
performance manager Tony
Iro said. "In e ect, this leaves
us with the same situation we
had for last year's Anzac test in
Canberra and we'll revisit the
assistant coach vacancy before
the Four Nations in October.
"We are focused on getting the
right person for our needs and
feel this is the best solution in
the meantime." --- APNZ
Interim Warriors coach
Andrew McFadden has made
a number of changes to the
side for Sunday's game against
the Bulldogs at Eden Park,
with Feleti Mateo and Chad
Townsend the biggest casualties.
McFadden was yesterday
con rmed as coach for the
remainder of the season after
the sacking of Matt Elliott
and immediately put his
stamp on the side with his
selections for Sunday's game.
He said yesterday changes were
imminent and he has delivered.

Sebastine Ikahihifo to start

Ngani Laumape starts on the

injury, and hooker Siliva Havili
is set to make his Warriors
debut o the bench.

appearance of the year from the

on the wing with Glen (Fisiiahi)
having a shoulder injury,"
McFadden said. " at gives
Ngani his chance to come back
into the NRL. He has been
going well in the New South

"It's tough on Chad. He has
been doing a good job but
omas is a key player for us.
He's a leader and is ready to
come back into the starting
lineup. Feleti hasn't been going
well and knows he needs to play
his way back into form with our
New South Wales Cup side.

McFadden welcomed the
inclusion of four other NSW
Cup regulars on an extended
interchange following the side's
commanding 44-6 win against
the Sharks last week.
" ey have all earned their
selection on the extended
bench," he said.
"It's really exciting for Siliva
to be making his debut and
he thoroughly deser ves it.
Dom was the players' player of
the day against Cronulla and
Charlie and David have both
been working hard for the New

to be able to recognise them."

"We've dealt with the
performance against Cronulla.
It was a poor performance,"
McFadden said. "We need
to move past that and get
our preparation right for the
Bulldogs. We've had a di cult
week but now it's all about the
football and taking on a side
that has been going really well."
e Bulldogs have won their
last two matches, edging the

Melbourne 40-12 in Perth in a
match the in uential Cameron

Former Warriors' assistant Tony Iro
has ruled himself out of the running to
replace Matt Elliott as head coach of
the NRL side.
Iro was a long-time deputy to Ivan
Cleary and Brian McClennan but
left the club when he was overlooked
for the top job after McClennan was
sacked in 2012. Now Elliott has also
been given his marching order from
Mt Smart Stadium, the head coaching
role is again up for grabs but Iro insists
he will remain in his role as at high
performance manager at the New
Zealand Rugby League.
"At this stage I'm really happy with
my role at the NZRL," he said. "I'm
not even considering (the Warriors).
I've got a big job to do here and it's all
hands on deck."
Iro did take the reins at the Warriors
after McClennan's dismissal, serving
two games in charge as the caretaker
coach before the club began an
o season search for a permanent
replacement. When Elliott was
appointed, Iro decided his future lay
elsewhere and moved to the NZRL.
While the opportunity at the Warriors
has come too soon, Iro said he would
keep an open mind regarded a shift
back to the top level in the future.
"Anything can happen. I've had a
number of role changes over the last
24 months. I'm learning plenty about
management and sta ng issues but it's
rugby league and I'd never say never. I
enjoy being involved in football."
