will go it alone after
deciding not to seek any
further funding from
High Performance Sport
New Zealand Golf had
applied for funding from
HPSNZ on behalf of
Ko to help cover travel,
and mental skills training
during her formative
years on the professional
circuit as the 17-year-old
eyes competing at the Rio
Olympics in 2016.
Despite clearing more
than $600,000 in earnings
from 10 tournaments
this year and signing a
deal with IMG, there are
huge expenses placed on a
Ko and HPSNZ began
an agreement in 2012
with a focus on Rio that
was always set to be
reviewed this year.
It is understood Ko
drove the decision to
cease her application for
funding and while she
lives abroad on tour she
is worried about how she
is perceived back in New
